Taichung City Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen delivered a keynote speech at a Premium luncheon hosted by The European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT) on November 27 at the Millennium Hotel Taichung. The event fostered lively exchanges with over 50 representatives from European businesses.

Why Taichung? ECCT CEO Freddie Höglund hightlighted the Chamber’s focus on the city, noting that 14 of its corporate members have investments in Taichung, including substantial contributions to wind power projects. This emphasis led to hosting the luncheon in Taichung and inviting Mayor Lu to engage with European enterprises.

Mayor Lu delivered her address in English, spotlighting Taichung as the original place of bubble tea and demonstrating the functionality of Taichung Shopping Festival App. Drawing on her 2019 visit to Europe, she emphasized shared commitments to environmental sustainability.

During the event, Mayor Lu addressed inquiries from wind power companies and pharmaceutical companies. She outlined Taichung's investor-friendly advantages, such as Taiwan’s lowest land value tax, customized recruitment support, streamlined single-window support, and strong supply chains in precision machinery, optics, and bicycles. She extended an open invitation for businesses to invest in Taichung, assuring them of the city’s full support.

Mayor Lu also highlighted Taichung's role in wind energy, a key strength of European business and one of the city’s largest investment sectors. She underscored Taichung’s three major advantages: Taiwan's best natural wind resources, a highly skilled workforce, and strong governmental support, positioning the city as an ideal hub for wind power development.

Taichung offers comprehensive resources for green energy development, including machinery, manpower, and infrastructure. Mayor Lu concluded by reaffirming that green energy is not just a cornerstone of Taiwan’s energy policy but also a new direction for the future growth of Taichung’s industries.
